(October 13) On October 7-8, 2025, the REDUSE trial investigators, assessors, and trial management team met in Lund, Sweden, to gather in person and learn from each other through inspiring and informative presentations. For a clinical trial of the size of REDUSE, comprising over 20 sites throughout 3 countries, the opportunity to meet face to face is an important way to build connections and enthusiasm among the trial team.
This 2-day-long meeting covered a wide array of topics that were intended to provide updates on trial progress, offer support to site participants, and look ahead to the next steps once the trial has concluded. Among the myriad topics that were discussed were trial and data monitoring, future substudies, long-term follow-up, publication strategy, and logistical matters.
The REDUSE trial aims to learn whether restricting the administration of fluids improves outcomes compared with usual care in patients with septic shock, a severe type of sepsis, a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by the body's own response to an infection. Administration of fluids is an essential component of the care of patients with septic shock. However, the administration of overly large volumes of fluids can have detrimental effects.
The REDUSE trial group includes a strong team of researchers in intensive care, infectious diseases, environmental science, nursing, and occupational therapy with extensive experience in conducting intensive care trials. The management group includes researchers with previous experience in managing large ICU trials.
Thank you to the entire REDUSE team for your great efforts in the REDUSE trial!
