Södertälje Hospital becomes latest active REDUSE study site

(June 24) Earlier this month, Södertälje Hospital started patient recruitment for the REDUSE trial, joining the nearly two dozen study sites across Sweden and Europe to do so. The addition of Södertälje Hospital is especially notable, given its status as an emergency hospital that regularly sees sepsis patients in the acute setting.

Södertälje Hospital has recently established a working group that is devoted to improving sepsis care. Through this new course of care, the team's goal is to deliver more equal and uniform care in sepsis, from early detection and proper examination, treatment, and monitoring to correct and thorough diagnosis, education, and follow-up. A critical part of this algorithm is a sepsis alarm system, which has been implemented in its emergency department to ensure timely diagnostics and initiation of the treatment process. (Some of the sickest sepsis patients may need referral to the ICU, where they will be screened for inclusion into the REDUSE trial.)

The entire REDUSE team welcomes Södertälje Hospital and looks forward to their participation and the expertise of its sepsis team.
