(March 19) The REDUSE trial is proud to acknowledge a doctoral dissertation to be generated by one of its group members: on March 13, 2026, Dr. Maria Lengquist, MD, a specialist in anesthesiology and intensive care medicine, successfully defended her thesis, entitled "Identifying Sepsis and Infections in the Intensive Care Unit."

This body of work examined the fidelity with which current methods accurately diagnose sepsis and infections in intensive care unit (ICU) patients, including clinical criteria and biomarkers. Dr. Lengquist concluded that these common approaches have significant limitations, risking underestimation and overrepresentation of sepsis on admission to the ICU.

The entire REDUSE team warmly congratulates Maria for this achievement and thanks her, as one of its many dedicated and highly competent members, for her significant contributions to the REDUSE clinical trial.
